Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru Get 90 Days in Thailand — The Bilateral List
If your passport is from Brazil, Argentina, Chile or Peru, you get 90 days visa-free in Thailand. Not 30 — 90. That is a bilateral treaty, not the new 30-day exemption that covers sixty countries since 15 September 2026 [^1^]. France, Germany and the UK sit in the thirty-day group. The four South American countries sit above it.
The full bilateral list, current as of 16 October 2026, is short enough to write out:
- 90 days — Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru. - 30 days — China (incl. Hong Kong), Kazakhstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Russia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam. - 14 days — Cambodia, Myanmar. - 30 days (the new exemption, tourism only) — the remaining 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Japan, Singapore and all 27 EU members.
The distinction matters because the rules are not interchangeable. The 90-day bilateral entitlement is fixed by treaty and does not depend on the 15 September 2026 notification. The 30-day exemption is new, tourism-only, capped at one entry per country per visit, and limited to two land-border entries per calendar year — with Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore exempt from that cap [^1^][^2^]. If you hold both a Brazilian and a German passport, you cannot claim 90 days on one and then 30 on the other for the same visit; one entitlement per entry, one country per entry.
For Brazilians and Argentines specifically, the 90 days is a single continuous stay, not 90 days split across trips. The immigration officer stamps the date at entry; overstay begins the day after that date expires, at 500 baht per day with a 20,000-baht ceiling reached at day 40, and the overstay-ban ladder starts at 90 days (one year for voluntary overstay under 90 days; five years if arrested; ten years over five years) [^3^]. The 15-day visa-on-arrival, cut this year to Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia at 2,000 baht and non-extendable, does not apply to any of the four bilateral countries.
What the 15 September change did not touch. The bilateral 90-day group was not expanded. There is no fifth South American country in the treaty group. The Thai Ministry of Interior's four notifications (published 31 August 2026, in force 15 September) only changed the exemption tier, the VOA tier and the blacklist; they left the bilateral treaty group intact [^1^][^2^]. If a source claims Chile lost its 90 days, it is outdated — the treaty is unchanged.
Paperwork for the 90-day group. Same as the 30-day exemption: passport valid for at least six months, proof of onward travel, evidence of accommodation, and the free TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) filed within 72 hours of arrival [^1^]. The 1,120-baht AOT Passenger Service Charge has been in force since 20 June 2026, and the 450-baht arrival fee and 1,000-baht departure tax remain under Cabinet consultation to 29 October 2026 — they are not yet collected [^1^].
The practical takeaway. If you are Brazilian, Argentine, Chilean or Peruvian, your visa footprint is larger than the average visitor's — but it is not open-ended. The 90 days is a hard ceiling, the land-border entry cap still applies to your second trip of the year (unless you come by air from a country exempt from the cap), and the 30-day extension at 1,900 baht, at officer discretion, is available but not automatic. Plan the 90 days as one continuous block, not three 30-day hops.
